French defender Jean-Clair Todibo was on the verge of joining Juventus last summer, but ultimately made a loan move to West Ham. Now the Hammers had to make a decision about his future—and it's a decision that, in some ways, pleased Nice.

Details: In the end, West Ham exercised the buyout clause and signed Todibo permanently from the Ligue 1 side, with Nice earning a club-record €40 million from the deal—the exact amount stipulated in the loan agreement's purchase option. Moreover, Nice will also receive a percentage of any future sale should West Ham decide to offload the Frenchman, though the exact figure of the sell-on clause remains undisclosed.

However, not all €40 million will stay on the French Riviera. Barcelona will pocket €8.5 million from the deal, as Todibo represented the Catalan giants between 2019 and 2021.

Reminder: Until now, the most expensive player to leave Nice was Jean Michaël Seri, who joined Fulham in the 2018/2019 season for €30 million.
