French defender Jean-Clair Todibo was on the verge of joining Juventus last summer, but ultimately made a loan move to West Ham. Now the Hammers had to make a decision about his future—and it's a decision that, in some ways, pleased Nice.

Details: In the end, West Ham exercised the buyout clause and signed Todibo permanently from the Ligue 1 side, with Nice earning a club-record €40 million from the deal—the exact amount stipulated in the loan agreement's purchase option.
