Brazilian national team forward Vinicius Junior has publicly commented for the first time on the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign, sharing an emotional message to the fans.
The striker admitted that it took him several days to process what happened and to find the right words after Brazil’s painful elimination from the tournament.
"It’s been almost four days, and I’m still thinking about what to write after the disappointment this World Cup brought," Vinicius noted.
The player thanked everyone who supported Brazil throughout the tournament, emphasizing that he felt the backing of people from all generations.
"I saw so many people of all ages standing by us and sharing our dream. It wouldn’t be right to just remain silent," wrote the Brazilian.
In closing, Vinicius apologized to the fans and promised to do everything possible to bring the national team back to the pinnacle of world football.
"I want to apologize and I promise that I will keep fighting for our dream — to make Brazil the best national team in the world once again."
Brazil exited the World Cup at the round of 16 stage after losing 1-2 to Norway.
