Real Sociedad Lead Race to Sign Morocco Defender Nayef Aguerd
Real Sociedad have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign Morocco international Nayef Aguerd, with the Spanish club intensifying efforts to bring the experienced defender back to San Sebastián this summer.
According to French outlet FootMercato, Real Sociedad are leading the pursuit after opening discussions with Olympique de Marseille over a deal for the 30-year-old centre-back.
The report adds that Aguerd has already given an initial indication that he would be open to returning to the La Liga side following his successful loan spell last season.
The Moroccan defender spent the 2024/25 campaign with Real Sociedad, where he established himself as one of the club's most reliable performers before returning to Marseille at the end of the season.
His impressive displays in Spain have convinced the Basque outfit to make another move, and they are now working towards reaching an agreement with the French club.
Despite Real Sociedad's strong interest, the race for Aguerd is not completely over.
