In the first leg of the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid contested against Atlético Madrid. The match unfolded on Wednesday, the 10th of January, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The "Galacticos" took the lead in the match. In the sixth minute, Mario Hermoso, assisted by Griezmann, broke the deadlock. It took Real Madrid 14 minutes to level the score. Antonio Rüdiger added a goal to his tally, and six minutes later, the Madridistas surged ahead with a goal from Mendy. Atlético didn't remain in the trailing role for long, as Griezmann equalized in the 37th minute. The teams headed into halftime with a 2-2 draw.

In the second half, Real Madrid dominated the football pitch, but it was Atlético that found the net. In the 78th minute, Kepa inadvertently directed the ball into his own goal. It seemed that Simeone's team would maintain a minimal advantage, but Real Madrid had different plans. Following a protracted attack, Dani Carvajal scored the third goal for the "Merengues," leveling the score and pushing the match into extra time.

During the extra periods, there were no perilous moments on the field. Atlético defended, while Real Madrid sought approaches to the opponent's goal. The "Royal" club succeeded in doing so. In the 115th minute, after a delivery from Carvajal, Savic deflected the ball into his own net, and Oblak couldn't prevent it. The match was put to an end by Braim Diaz, who scored an empty-net goal when Jan Oblak went to help the Matras players in the attack.

Real Madrid secured a victory in an extraordinary match with a scoreline of 5-3, advancing to the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
