Real Madrid forward Rodrygo revealed that he could have joined Liverpool in 2017, but ultimately turned down the opportunity.

"I almost joined Liverpool in 2017, the deal was done for €3m. It collapsed because I said no. I wanted to stay at Santos, make history, finish my studies and then leave… even though the offer from LFC was very good”.

In 2017, Rodrigo made his debut for Santos' senior team and played 2 matches in the Brazilian Serie A. In total, he played 68 matches for his hometown club, scoring 14 goals and providing 8 assists.

In the summer of 2019, Rodrygo moved to Real Madrid, but Santos earned significantly more from this transfer than they could have in 2017 – 45 million euros.

In the current season, Rodrygo has scored 15 goals and provided 8 assists in 45 matches across all competitions.
