Real Madrid lost to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, and after the match, news emerged of an internal conflict within the team.
Details: According to Marca, a dispute broke out between Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio and Álvaro Arbeloa. The issue stemmed from the player’s frustration at not featuring against Manchester City, which he openly expressed to the coach. He then informed the manager just hours before the game that he had picked up an injury, something that did not sit well with Arbeloa.
Arbeloa demanded a public apology from Asencio in front of the squad, but the player initially apologised only to the coach in private.
However, he later decided to put an end to the tension and eventually apologised to his teammates. Following the apology, he returned to the squad for matches against Mallorca and Bayern Munich.
Reminder: Speaking at the post-match press conference, Álvaro Arbeloa insisted that it does not matter where Real Madrid play, as they are capable of winning at any stadium.
