Real Madrid fans target Pep Guardiola with homophobic chants during Champions League match
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was subjected to homophobic taunts from Real Madrid fans during their Champions League clash, Marca reports.
With Real Madrid securing a dominant victory and eliminating City from the tournament, Madrid supporters couldn’t resist mocking the former Barcelona coach.
During the match, fans were heard chanting offensive phrases, insinuating that Guardiola had lost weight due to drug use and later because he had been spending time in Chueca—Madrid’s well-known LGBTQ+ district. In Spanish slang, the term can also be used as a derogatory insult.
According to Marca, the chant had a clear homophobic undertone.
The taunt emerged shortly after shocking reports of Guardiola’s separation from his wife after 30 years together, with Madrid fans seemingly taking aim at his struggles both on and off the pitch.
