Real Madrid Eye Leverkusen's Hincapié as Next Defensive Signing
Real Madrid are closely monitoring Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié as a potential addition to their backline for the upcoming season, according to Fichajes.net. The 23-year-old Ecuadorian has emerged as a top target for the Spanish giants, though Liverpool are also reportedly in the mix for his signature, according to German media. This comes after Madrid already secured the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold for next season.
Hincapié has quickly become one of Europe’s most promising young center-backs. Under contract with Leverkusen until 2029, his market value has soared to around €50 million, a significant increase from the €8 million the club paid for him in 2021. Known primarily as a left-footed central defender, Hincapié also offers flexibility as a left-back, a trait that fits well with Carlo Ancelotti’s tactical setup.
Real Madrid's final decision may hinge on the status of Éder Militao, who is still recovering from a serious ACL injury. Although David Alaba is back in action, Militao’s recovery will determine whether additional reinforcements are necessary. Madrid are also keeping tabs on other defensive options, including Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, who recently impressed in his debut for Spain.
