Real Madrid and Barcelona could receive €1 billion each for participation in the Super League Real Madrid and Barcelona could receive €1 billion each for participation in the Super League

The A22 Sports Management company, involved in the creation of the Super League, has disclosed the potential earnings for Real Madrid and Barcelona if they become participants in the tournament. As per Mundo Deportivo reports, participants in the tournament could receive up to €1 billion, considering the league's total budget stands at €15 billion. Since Real Madrid and Barcelona showed the most interest in creating this tournament, they are closest to receiving the higher mentioned amount if the Super League is held.

Discussions about forming a tournament involving the world's top clubs have been ongoing for quite some time, dating back to the end of the previous century. The announcement about the Super League's creation was first made on April 18, 2021. However, this idea immediately garnered a negative response from UEFA. Given that the teams were part of their respective national football associations, UEFA held influence over them. The representatives of UEFA stated that all clubs participating in the Super League would be banned from competing in all other domestic, European, and global competitions, and players from these teams might be prohibited from representing their national squads. Additionally, opposition to this emerged from football federations and top leagues in France and Germany, as well as the European Club Association and FIFA.

The founding clubs of the Super League included six English clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea), and three each from Italy and Spain (Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid). Within two days, on April 20, 2021, all English clubs decided to withdraw from the Super League. The following day, a similar decision was made by Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Atlético Madrid, and on June 6 of the same year, Juventus announced their withdrawal. Consequently, only Real Madrid and Barcelona continued to advocate for the creation of the Super League.

On May 31, it was revealed that the Super League had filed a lawsuit against FIFA and UEFA in the European Court for violating competition laws, with a court hearing set for the upcoming Thursday, December 21, following which the fate of the Super League will be determined.
