Real is contemplating the acquisition of a keeper from a team on the verge of promotion to La Liga
The 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper of Espanyol, Joan Garcia, has attracted the interest of Real Madrid.
According to AS, the royal club has begun exploring the goalkeeper market because Ukrainian Andriy Lunin may not extend his contract and could leave Los Blancos this summer. Lunin's current agreement with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2025.
Joan Garcia is not only being courted by Real Madrid but also by Premier League clubs. His contract with Espanyol is valid until June 2028. Should Espanyol secure promotion to La Liga through the playoffs, a €20 million release clause in the 23-year-old Spaniard’s contract will be activated.
On June 13, Espanyol played the second leg of the La Liga playoff semi-final against Sporting Gijon. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, with Espanyol having won the first leg 1-0. On June 16 and 23, Espanyol will face Oviedo for the final promotion spot to Spain's top division.
Previously, it was reported that Real Madrid's management received an offer for Thibaut Courtois from a Saudi Arabian club.
