Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are set to battle it out for Tottenham’s central defender Cristian Romero. Both Spanish heavyweights are considering the Argentine as one of their top priorities for the summer transfer window, according to Football Espana.
Last summer, Atletico already made an attempt to sign Romero, but the Madrid club ultimately pulled out of the deal. Shortly after, Tottenham extended the defender’s contract, hoping to keep him at the club for the long term. Nevertheless, Spanish media report that the Argentine still intends to leave the English side at the end of the season.
Romero’s qualities are also highly valued in Barcelona. The Catalan club sees him as an attractive option—especially if he becomes available at a reduced price amid his desire to move on. While the Blaugrana’s interest has been less active so far, the club could make a serious bid if La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule is reinstated.
