RB Leipzig parts ways with Marco Rose ahead of Cup semifinal
RB Leipzig announced their parting with head coach Marco Rose following a 0-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. This loss dropped the team to sixth place in the standings, jeopardizing their Champions League qualification. Leipzig has not won in their last six away games, with three ending without scoring any goals, leading to Rose's dismissal.
Club sporting director Marcel Schäfer noted that despite long-term support for the coach and his team, the club decided to change coaches as a new impulse was necessary to achieve their goals.
Rose took charge of Leipzig in September 2022 and successfully led the team from 11th to third place, securing Champions League qualification and winning the German Cup in 2023.
Rose's replacement as head coach will be announced shortly. The decision is time-sensitive, as the team will play a crucial Cup semifinal against VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday, which will be decisive for salvaging the season.
In addition to Rose, his assistants Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck, as well as head of licensed players department Frank Aehlig, were also dismissed.
