Matías Almeyda is no longer expected to take charge of Monterrey. Although the Argentine coach was seen as the ideal candidate by fans, reports now indicate that he is close to signing with a club in the United Arab Emirates, effectively ruling him out of the Rayados job.

Almeyda’s track record in Liga MX, including a league title with Chivas, his understanding of Mexican football, and his leadership qualities made him a top target for the club. However, his preference appears to be continuing his international career, with the Middle East opportunity taking precedence over any offer from Mexico.

With Almeyda likely out of the picture, Monterrey’s board, led by José Antonio Noriega, is now focusing on two other names: Gabriel Milito and Domènec Torrent. Milito, known for his attacking style, recently led Atlético Mineiro to a Copa Libertadores final. Torrent, meanwhile, has experience in Liga MX with Atlético San Luis and a pedigree that includes working alongside Pep Guardiola.

Rayados urgently need to appoint a new manager following the dismissal of Martín Demichelis, especially with the FIFA Club World Cup just weeks away. The team is set to face top competition such as Inter Milan and River Plate.

Although Almeyda was seen as the fan-favorite choice, the club must now look elsewhere. Milito and Torrent remain the most viable candidates, with an official decision expected soon.
