Ranieri's fairy tale falls short. Serie A season review
On May 25, decisive matches of the current Serie A season took place in Italy. In an intense long-distance battle, Juventus, Lazio, and Roma fought for the fourth and final Italian ticket to the Champions League.
Napoli, Inter, and Atalanta had already secured the top three spots, while Bologna, as Coppa Italia winners, qualified for the Europa League. In a dramatic showdown, Juventus overcame Venezia, sending them down to Serie B and denying Claudio Ranieri's Roma a place in the Champions League. Fiorentina, thanks to a head-to-head advantage, finished ahead of Lazio, leaving the "Eagles" without any European competition.
After the final Serie A matchday, all Italian representatives in European competitions for next season have been determined:
- Champions League — Napoli, Inter, Atalanta, Juventus.
- Europa League — Bologna, Roma.
- Conference League — Fiorentina.
Empoli, Venezia, and Monza have been relegated from Serie A this season, to be replaced by Sassuolo and Pisa. Spezia and Cremonese will battle for the third promotion spot to the top flight.
