Ramsey Explains Why He Chose Pumas After Touching Down in Mexico

Aaron Ramsey is officially a Pumas player. The Welsh midfielder landed in Mexico City early Tuesday morning and wasted no time expressing his excitement about joining one of the country's most iconic clubs.
“I’m excited to meet everyone. I’m excited to play and be part of this historic club. I can’t wait to get on the pitch,” said Ramsey, adding that the opportunity thrilled him from the start. “The coach really wanted me, and what he had to say was encouraging. I was eager to work with him.”
As Mario Badillo reported, Efraín Juárez played a central role in convincing Ramsey to join. “Yes, Efraín was very important. That’s one of the main reasons I came. He’s a young coach who’s already had success in his career. I’m looking forward to getting involved,” Ramsey said, amid reports that he turned down offers from Saudi Arabia.
The former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder made it clear that one of his main goals is to rediscover his best form. “For me now, it’s about playing for this great club, enjoying football again, and the rest will follow,” he said, with an eye on being ready for the 2026 World Cup.
Ramsey also praised the quality of the Mexican league. “I’ve watched a few games recently and was really impressed. There are some very good teams. I’m excited to play a role in this competition.”
