Racing Open to Renewing Gabriel Rojas, But Gago Eyes Move to Necaxa

Gabriel Rojas may have a contract with Racing Club until the end of 2026, but his future remains up in the air. As reported by TyC Sports, the left back is in talks with the club to improve his deal, though interest from abroad—particularly from former Racing coach Fernando Gago, now at Necaxa—could lead to a summer transfer.
Rojas, 27, joined Racing in 2023 from Mexican side Querétaro for $2.3 million. Since then, he has played 101 matches, scored four goals, and provided twelve assists. He was instrumental in Racing’s recent success, helping the team lift the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and 2025 Recopa.
Coach Gustavo Costas hopes to keep Rojas in Avellaneda but acknowledges the defender’s current contract is overdue for an update. The player himself joked in a club video, “He calls me every twenty minutes—let me enjoy my vacation,” referring to Costas’ persistent messages.
The club is aiming to secure Rojas with a better deal, yet his $10 million release clause leaves the door open for suitors. With talks progressing positively, Racing hopes to keep a key figure in their defensive line—but nothing is set in stone.
