As Racing Club prepares for a decisive Libertadores group-stage clash against Fortaleza, the club’s management has already turned to squad planning. According to TyC Sports, Racing has opened negotiations to renew veteran goalkeeper Gabriel Arias’ contract, which expires in December.

Arias, a Chilean international and long-time leader under Gustavo Costas, has signaled his willingness to continue. Talks with his agent are underway, though financial terms remain under discussion. The club is hopeful: Arias could finish his career in Avellaneda, where he has become a fan favorite.

The renewal could also impact backup keeper Facundo Cambeses. The former Banfield shot-stopper has seen limited action and may seek a move if Arias extends his stay.

Since arriving at Racing, Arias has played 244 official matches, kept 99 clean sheets, and lifted six titles. His most iconic triumphs include the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and 2025 Recopa Sudamericana, alongside the 2018/19 Superliga and a host of domestic cups.

For Racing, retaining Arias means holding onto one of the symbols of its modern resurgence — and perhaps allowing him to retire as a club legend.
