Provocative slogan: Bavarian ski resort’s ad banned from World Cup due to vulgar undertones
A promotional slogan for the Bavarian ski resort in Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been banned from being displayed during the Alpine Skiing World Cup by the International Ski Federation (FIS), reports The Local.de.
The slogan, "I love Wank," refers to the local mountain named Wank, which is perfectly normal in German. However, the phrase carries a vulgar connotation in English, where "wank" is a slang term for masturbation.
The slogan was initially planned to be painted on the snow along the Kandahar track, making it visible during the event’s global broadcast. However, the FIS deemed the phrase inappropriate for an international audience and decided it would not be permitted during the competition.
The World Cup event in Bavaria is scheduled to take place from January 25 to February 2. Stars like Lindsey Vonn, who recently made a comeback after a five-year hiatus, and Marco Odermatt are expected to compete on the famous slopes.
