The Premier League has released a statement clarifying the VAR decision regarding the controversial penalty awarded at the end of the match between West Ham and Manchester United, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

Details: Jarrod Bowen successfully converted the penalty in the 92nd minute, securing West Ham's third win of the current Premier League season. This success lifted Julen Lopetegui's team to 13th place in the table, overtaking the "Red Devils," who occupy 14th position.

Referee David Coote initially decided not to award a penalty after Danny Ings fell following contact with Matthijs de Ligt. However, after consulting with VAR, he reviewed his decision and awarded the penalty. The Premier League deemed the referees' decision correct, as stated in the announcement.

The referee did not award a penalty to West Ham for a challenge by de Ligt on Ings. The VAR deemed there was sufficient contact on Ings’ lower leg and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original decision and awarded a penalty.

Reminder: Manchester United fans expressed their dissatisfaction with this decision, claiming that Ings handled the ball prior to the contact and that there was not enough substantial contact between the players to warrant the penalty.
