Earlier, we reported that Chelsea want to sign Sporting centre-back Ousmane Diomande, but the Aristocrats could be without the player.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle and Arsenal, who were also previously thought to be contenders for the player, have stepped up with Diomande's transfer, putting the 20-year-old defender's move to Stamford Bridge in jeopardy.

They were the ones who wanted to get ahead of the competition and sign the player, but the dire state of financial fair-play, which reportedly could force Chelsea to sell as many as half a dozen players, has made the transfer difficult.

Also consider the fact that Sporting will ask in the region of €50 million for their centre-back. This season, Diomande played 27 matches for the Portuguese grandee, in which he scored two goals and one assist.
