Just one week before Zamalek SC's Cairo Derby matchup with Al Ahly, Jose Peseiro was named head coach, taking Christian Gross's place.

The 64-year-old Portuguese manager signed an 18-month contract, marking his return to Egyptian football after a brief spell with Al Ahly during the 2015-16 season. Reports suggest Peseiro will earn $75,000 per month until the end of the season, with a potential increase to $85,000 next season.

Zamalek’s Coaching Changes

  • Peseiro replaces Christian Gross, who was dismissed despite an 8W-3D-2L record in 13 league games.
  • Zamalek currently sits 3rd in the Egyptian Premier League with 26 points, trailing Pyramids FC (30 pts) and Al Ahly (29 pts).

Peseiro’s Experience

  • Led Nigeria to the 2023 AFCON final
  • Coached Porto, Braga, Panathinaikos, Al Hilal & Venezuela
  • Guided Sporting CP to the 2005 UEFA Cup final

Peseiro took charge of his first training session on Friday and will debut against Petrojet on Sunday as he aims to lead Zamalek back to glory.
