Player Ratings for Chelsea vs Morecambe: Adarabioyo’s Performance and Giu’s Disappointment

The David vs Goliath match... ended in a victory for Goliath. Morecambe, a club from England's League Two, is currently second to last in the table. With all due respect to them, a heavy defeat was expected: 5-0. The visitors barely crossed the center line.

What stood out was the performance of Romeo Lavia in the first half – due to his injury history, he rarely plays, but this time, he was solid. On the other hand, we were left surprised by Mark Giu’s absolutely... unremarkable game. Unremarkable because throughout the match, he only registered 11 touches and 9 passes. In 90 minutes. What is that?

Best Chelsea Players of the Match:

João Félix

João started from the first minute and, in my opinion, should have guaranteed Chelsea’s victory today. He did: scoring 2 goals and overall having 9 shots on target. It’s also worth noting that he frequently appeared on his own half, helping his team in the few counterattacks that Morecambe managed to launch.

Tosin Adarabioyo

Today’s double was Tosin’s first two goals for Chelsea. He’s usually listed among Chelsea’s best players for his defensive work, but funnily enough, today he didn’t stand out for his defensive efforts (again, not that Morecambe gave him much to deal with). However, he did score 2 goals: one with a header and the other with a long-range shot.

Tyrique George

The 18-year-old player gave 5 key passes today, 2 of which led to assists. He also had 1 blocked shot on goal and 3 successful dribbles.

Mention-worthy:

Reece James. Reece finally returned to the field after a long layoff. Unfortunately, he was substituted early in the second half. In the first half, he didn’t contribute much defensively (given Morecambe wasn’t really an attacking threat), but he did create 3 key passes.

Only George created more, but over 90 minutes. Reece is a great player, but he’s been deemed unnecessary by Maresca. Rumors suggest that he may be sold in this transfer window. If so, we wish him the best of luck – he deserves to find a good club.
