Percy Tau, the 30-year-old Bafana Bafana forward, may reunite with former coach Pitso Mosimane at Esteghlal FC in Iran during the January transfer window. Tau, who has been informed by Al Ahly that he can leave the club upon a mutual termination agreement, has garnered interest from clubs like Zamalek SC and Kaizer Chiefs.
Reports from Egyptian media suggest Mosimane, who previously signed Tau for Al Ahly from Brighton and Hove Albion, is keen to bring the South African star to bolster Esteghlal’s attack. Since Mosimane’s arrival, the Persian Gulf Pro League giants have struggled for goals, and Tau’s addition could significantly enhance their AFC Champions League campaign.
During his time at Al Ahly, Tau played 125 games, scored 30 goals, and made 14 assists. In four years, he won 11 trophies. Now, as Al Ahly looks to sign Algeria’s Baghdad Bounedjah from Al-Shamal, it seems Tau is likely to leave.
Joining Esteghlal would not only bring Tau back together with his former coach, Mosimane, but also give him a new challenge in a strong league. Fans are excitedly waiting for news about this possible move, which could change the direction of Tau’s career.
