Pirates' Title Hopes Fade After Shock Defeat to Gallants

Orlando Pirates' hopes of challenging Mamelodi Sundowns for the Betway Premiership title took another major blow as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Marumo Gallants on Saturday at Free State Stadium. This marked their fourth loss of the season, widening the gap between them and log leaders Sundowns to 18 points, despite having four games in hand.

Tough Fixtures Ahead

The defeat occurs at a crucial moment, as the Pirates must win their next games to maintain their modest hopes of winning the championship. Prior to a pivotal matchup with Stellenbosch FC, they will first go to Chippa United. Their season may be defined by their much awaited matchup with Sundowns in two weeks.

Gallants Boost Survival Hopes

For Gallants, the victory was a vital boost in their battle against relegation. Under new Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, they have shown resilience, climbing above Royal AM, Magesi FC, and Richards Bay in the standings.
