Manchester City have officially announced that they have extended the contract of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland until the summer of 2034. The move makes him one of the highest paid players in world football and also confirms his long-term plans to remain at the club.
A contract of such a long duration has become a rare occurrence in modern football, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola saying that it shows the player's commitment.
However, not everyone was happy with the news.
Piers Morgan, a well-known British journalist and TV presenter, took to his X account to sarcastically comment on the event, mentioning Manchester City's current struggles:
"Dear Erling Haaland, Your team is currently sixth in the league, has just suffered the longest losing streak of your manager's career, and you have barely managed a shot on goal this season. “I think the defenders can sleep peacefully…” he wrote.
