Peter Shalulile, a striker for Mamelodi Sundowns, has revealed the source of his outstanding achievements this season by citing two Bafana Bafana players as his football role models.
Shalulile’s Historic Season with Mamelodi Sundowns
This season, Shalulile added another goal to his tally in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals against Esperance of Tunisia, becoming the most consistent goal-scorer for Sundowns in the competition.
The Namibian striker is getting close to surpassing the PSL all-time goal-scoring record of 129 goals, which is now held by Siyabonga Nomvethe, with just a few games left in the season. His 19 goals demonstrate his skill in front of goal.
What Motivates Shalulile?
Shalulile cited international talents Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland as players that inspire him, pointing to their goal-scoring prowess and drive for improvement.
"As a striker, you always want to score goals, not compete with others, but compete with yourself," Shalulile said to television reporters.
He added that the influence of coaches and teammates, especially those who help him with finishing drills, has been crucial in his development.
"I give credit to the coaches I have worked with, the people off and on the field who help me improve, and most of all to God," he concluded. "We all want to be champions of Africa. We will do our best and keep believing."
With seven games left this season, Shalulile is poised to break the PSL goal-scoring record, further cementing his place as one of South Africa's top footballing talents.
