Percy Tau’s Qatar SC Debut Ends in Disappointment with Super Cup Final Loss
In the Qatar-UAE Super Cup final on Friday, South African forward Percy Tau suffered a crushing 5-1 loss to Al Nasr, capping a difficult start to his career at Qatar SC.
Tau, who joined Qatar SC this winter after leaving Egyptian giants Al Ahly, started the match but was unable to make a significant impact as his team was outclassed. The loss marks an unfortunate beginning for the Bafana Bafana vice-captain at his new club.
The 30-year-old striker moved to Qatar SC on a six-month deal, reportedly worth R8 million, with an option for a two-year extension. His departure from Al Ahly followed months of speculation and limited playing time under coach Marcel Koller, which also affected his position in the South African national team.
After a difficult time in Egypt, Tau's transfer is viewed as an opportunity to revitalize his career. He had a lot of success with Al Ahly, including several CAF Champions League wins, but he had trouble staying consistent in his last season.
Qatar SC, currently fighting relegation in the Qatar Stars League, will hope Tau can quickly bounce back from this setback and become a key player for the remainder of the season.
