Pep Guardiola Questions CAF Decision to Award AFCON 2025 Title to Morocco
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his surprise at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and award it to Morocco.
CAF made the announcement on Tuesday evening, officially naming Morocco as champions nearly two months after the controversial conclusion of the tournament. The ruling has since sparked widespread debate across the football world.
Reacting to the development, Guardiola admitted the decision caught him off guard. Speaking in comments reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the City boss described the situation as surprising and unclear.
“It’s a surprise. I don’t know the reason behind it, but it’s a decision that has been made behind the scenes,” Guardiola said.
“What happens everywhere is what we see, it's not happened, it always happens behind the scenes and you don't see their faces”.
