Pep Guardiola comments on racism in football
A scandal erupted this week during the match between Benfica and Real Madrid, where a player from the Portuguese side allegedly called Vinícius a monkey. Pep Guardiola has now addressed the situation.
Details: Speaking at a press conference, the Spanish tactician stressed that neither your birthplace nor the colour of your skin makes you better or worse than anyone else. He added that there is still a great deal of work to be done — and not only in football.
Quote: “There is a lot of work ahead; this concerns society, not just football. Racism is everywhere, and if you pretend that racism is only about skin colour, then that attitude itself is racism. It’s about the way you act as if you are better than others for many different reasons,” Guardiola stated.
Meanwhile, Manchester City could lose their professional status next season if the EFL reaches a corresponding decision. It is reported that should the Premier League decide at the end of the current campaign to expel Manchester City from the competition over the 115 alleged breaches, the consequences would be severe.
Reminder: French giants PSG have carried out a discreet inquiry into Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City.
