Peñarol have secured the signing of Emanuel Gularte from Puebla, per reports from FútbolTotal. The Uruguayan center-back joins the Montevideo side on a one-year loan with a purchase option, marking one of the most notable departures from the Liga MX club ahead of the 2025 Apertura.
Gularte, 27, was one of the most consistent performers under coach Pablo Guede and had attracted interest from Peñarol in recent weeks. Negotiations progressed quickly, and the defender is now set to return to his home country, where he began his career before moving to Mexico.
His time at Puebla followed a short stint with Querétaro, and over the past seasons, he established himself as a defensive mainstay. Puebla, currently undergoing a roster overhaul after a disappointing campaign, has relied on loan deals to reshape the squad. Gularte’s exit, however, is a significant loss, both in quality and experience.
Back in Uruguay, Gularte will aim to solidify his role with the Aurinegros and potentially stay on permanently if Peñarol exercises their purchase option.
