Peñarol Eyes Janson as Boca Opens Door for Transfer
Uruguayan club Peñarol has expressed interest in acquiring 30-year-old forward Lucas Janson from Boca Juniors during the current transfer window. According to TyC Sports, Peñarol, set to face Racing in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, reached out to Boca's management to inquire about Janson's availability. The Argentine club has reportedly listed him among players available for transfer and is not expected to include him in the squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.
Janson joined Boca in July 2023 from Vélez Sarsfield for approximately $3 million but has struggled to make a significant impact. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in 46 appearances. In the 2025 Apertura, he was omitted from the matchday squad on ten occasions, including both playoff matches. His current market value is estimated at €500,000, though the exact fee Boca would accept remains uncertain.
Boca has already secured the signing of Marco Pellegrino and is close to finalizing a deal for Malcom Braida. The club is also targeting forwards Marino Hinestroza from Atlético Nacional and Walter Mazzanti from Huracán. Janson's departure could pave the way for these new additions to bolster Boca's attacking options.
