Payback for the legend’s death! Diego Maradona’s doctors face up to 12 years in prison
The high-profile trial over the death of the legendary Argentine footballer has entered its final stretch, with prosecutors seeking severe sentences.
Details: State prosecutors have officially called for members of Diego Maradona’s medical team to be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison on charges of involuntary manslaughter. The report comes from the sports outlet Polymarket Sports.
Those appearing before the court include the medical specialists responsible for treating the national icon and overseeing his postoperative rehabilitation. Prosecutors insist that the doctors and medical staff displayed gross negligence by leaving the critically ill patient without essential cardiac monitoring and ignoring critical signs of his deteriorating condition.
According to the forensic medical assessment, the team’s actions came close to knowingly abandoning Maradona in a dangerous situation, while proper hospitalization could have saved the footballer’s life. As a result, the prosecution is calling for those found guilty to be isolated from society for the maximum terms permitted by law.
It is worth noting that Diego Maradona, captain of Argentina’s triumphant 1986 World Cup team, died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60 from heart failure that caused pulmonary edema, prompting a years-long investigation into the actions of those around him.
