Paul Put: The Tactical Mastermind Leading Uganda to AFCON Glory
In 2023, Belgian coach Paul Put was chosen to lead the Uganda Cranes, and he will make his first appearance as their head coach at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Put is known for his careful planning and his skill in combining attractive play with good results. He has already gained the respect of Uganda’s enthusiastic football fans.
Uganda finished second in their AFCON qualifying group and is bringing a strong, well-rounded team to the tournament. The Cranes are co-hosting the event with Morocco, and this will be their eighth time competing in the continental championship. Their best performance was in 1978, when they came close to winning but lost to Ghana in the final.
Put has a lot of experience in African football. He led Burkina Faso to the AFCON final in 2013 and has also worked with teams like Kenya, Guinea, and The Gambia. His ability to put together a coherent team by integrating young and experienced players will be crucial as Uganda faces intense competition in Group C.
Uganda may surprise the continent with their campaign if they have local backing and a coach with expertise. Under Paul Put's leadership, the Cranes aspire to resurrect their past grandeur and re-establish themselves among Africa's elite.
