Patrick Vieira reveals the Lions of Teranga’s priority ahead of the clash against Mozambique

The Senegal national team is in Maputo to prepare for its opening match in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Lions of Teranga’s camp began on Sunday 20 September with the first players arriving. Senegal and Mozambique will face off on 25 September at the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo.

As his squad gradually comes together, Patrick Vieira spoke about the first few hours of the camp and his coaching staff’s priorities.

“For the first group to arrive today, the priority was really recovery, as it was a long journey for most of the players. Specific recovery work was therefore carried out at the hotel.

We’ll really get our preparations underway on the pitch tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon. The squad will be complete by tomorrow evening.

The priority, for the moment, remains recovery. After a long journey, it is important to keep the match day in mind and, above all, to ensure the players stay fresh. We will, however, start working seriously on the pitch from Tuesday afternoon.”

Originally scheduled to be played at home in Dakar, the Lions of Teranga’s match was eventually moved to Mozambique due to the unavailability of stadiums in the Senegalese capital.
