Merit, collective discipline and respect for the national jersey will be non-negotiable.

As the new boss of the Togo Hawks' technical bench, Patrice Neveu outlined his ambitions and requirements when he signed his contract in Lomé on Monday 2 March.

An expert in African football, the French tactician promises a simple but demanding approach. The 71-year-old coach wants to build a cohesive team where everyone has a say. The team will be open to all, provided they perform well, said Patrice Neveu.

I know African football well, its demands and its challenges. I also know that Togolese football has real potential. My working method is simple. It will be, quite frankly, a lot of rigour, clear organisation and respect for the national jersey for the players who wear it. My team will have to demonstrate collective discipline so that everyone can express themselves and all Togolese people can enjoy the game. Results will come through consistency, cohesion, coherence and commitment from everyone. The doors of the national team will be open to all players who perform well. I mean all players who perform well, and only their performance at club level will be taken into account, as well as their performance in the national team, whether they play abroad or in the local league. Only merit and value will count.
