Patrice Motsepe will visit Senegal in the coming weeks
The president of the Confederation of African Football aims to ease the tension arising from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Patrice Motsepe is set to visit the land of the Lions of Teranga in a few days’ time. During this visit, the CAF President will meet with the government and Senegalese football officials, he stated on Sunday 29 March at a press conference following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee. The aim of this visit is clear: to ease the tension arising from the Africa Cup of Nations final played on 18 January 2026. The match was marred by incidents followed by the controversial decision of the CAF Appeals Panel to strip Senegal of the African championship title and award it to Morocco.
We are with you, we support you. We are all Africans. I conveyed the same message to the Moroccans. We will not allow football to divide our peoples, causing stress and tension. On the contrary, football must unite our peoples. CAF and I are determined to ensure that these excellent relations, these historic ties between the people of Senegal and the people of Morocco, continue to develop and that these bonds continue to grow stronger.
