The president of the Confederation of African Football cited two main reasons.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which was originally due to take place from 17 March to 3 April, has been postponed. It will now be held from 25 July to 16 August 2026. When asked about the reasons behind the postponement, the CAF president cited various factors.

Patrice Motsepe explained that the governing body of African football wants to make the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations a major and competitive event. He also stated that problems had arisen, making it impossible to stick to the original schedule.

He reaffirmed that CAF is committed to developing women’s football and giving it the attention it deserves.
