Barcelona is set to officially announce the signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol next week. The German goalkeeper now faces a crossroads: remain at the club as the third-choice keeper or move on.
Details: Barcelona has been weighing its options for a while, but ter Stegen's behavior at the end of the season proved to be the final straw for head coach Hansi Flick and the club's sporting directors.
According to journalist Javi Torres (SPORT), ter Stegen's agent contacted Deco several days before the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Inter, informing him that the goalkeeper had recovered and was ready to play.
Despite this, the coaching staff opted to start Wojciech Szczęsny, given his strong form and ter Stegen's lack of match fitness.
The German international was unhappy with the decision and refused to travel to Milan with the squad, choosing instead to train alone in Barcelona. Jules Koundé, for example, despite being injured, still flew to Italy to support his teammates.
The club's management took issue with the German's attitude and the pressure he exerted, which only intensified tensions in the dressing room during the season's final stretch. Ultimately, the board saw no alternative but to sign a new goalkeeper and allow the German shot-stopper to leave.
