The Teranga Lions’ head coach explained that these appointments address an identified need.

Following Senegal’s defeat by France in their opening Group I match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Pape Thiaw sought to strengthen certain areas of his coaching staff. The Senegalese manager has brought in Abdoulaye Seck, a video analysis specialist, and Cheikou Kouyate.

“Yes, Abdoulaye Seck, the video analyst, has just joined us, as you may have seen. We realised that during the half-time breaks we needed to show footage, and he is highly skilled in the field of video analysis. He will be able to support Fares, who has been with us for some time and won the Africa Cup of Nations with us. It’s great to have him on board. I was the one who brought Cheikhou in. I think he’s an important part of this squad; he knows both generations of players and acts as a liaison between the players and me.”

Senegal face Norway on Tuesday 23 June, on the second matchday of the group stage of the World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
