The manager of the Lions of Teranga insists that the situation has been resolved and the team is focused on the next match.

News surrounding the Senegal national team, currently competing at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, has in recent days been dominated by a scandal over the non-payment of players’ bonuses, the lack of a contract for Pape Thiaw and the unsuitable conditions faced by the Lions of Teranga in the United States. When asked about the matter at a press conference on Sunday 21 June, Pape Thiaw, Senegal’s head coach, confirmed the facts. However, the Senegalese manager insists that everything has now been sorted out.

“My contract? It’s sorted. It took too long. But I must make it clear that it was never a question of money, but rather a matter of principle and respect. It’s true there were some teething problems. But we’re all here – the coaching staff, the players and the Football Association. We’re focused on the pitch and on tomorrow’s match; I think that’s the most important thing.”

Senegal will play their second group stage match against Norway on Monday 22 June.
