The Senegalese international spoke out on Tuesday 17 February.

In a message posted on social media, the Tottenham midfielder condemned the detention of Senegalese supporters in Morocco since the stormy final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Senegal and Morocco.

For Matar Sarr, this detention is unfair for the simple reason that the supporters of the Lions of Teranga were only supporting their team. Reiterating his support, the Senegalese international called for the release of his compatriots.

‘30 days in detention for supporters whose only crime was to passionately support their team. We strongly denounce this injustice and demand their release. Full support for our compatriots.’

It should be noted that since their arrest, the trial of these supporters has been postponed several times.
