Pape Cheikh Diop recounts how he was ‘ruined’ by a close friend
The Senegalese midfielder has given a heart-wrenching account of how he has been forced to start from scratch.
The former Aris Thessaloniki and Lyon player revealed that he had been the victim of a devastating betrayal by a close friend in whom he had placed his complete trust. This turned Pape Cheikh Diop’s life upside down. Beyond the financial losses, the player describes the personal trauma he has endured.
About three years ago, when I arrived at Aris Thessaloniki (in Greece, ed.), someone I trusted took everything from me. The money I had in the bank, my belongings, and left me with nothing. It all happened incredibly quickly. My mother asked me not to reveal his name, but he was like a father to me. I grew up with him because my biological father abandoned us when I was one year old. It was a terrible shock. I’d given him power of attorney because of the trust I placed in him. It was a serious mistake on my part, but I never imagined this could happen. He took my houses, my cars and my money. I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on my worst enemy.
