Aware of the expectations surrounding this match, which could make history for Beninese women’s football, Ouzerou Abdoulaye pointed out that this qualification could go beyond the sporting arena.
The whole nation is waiting for this qualification, which is only natural. For me, the girls would be the first to benefit. If they qualify, the whole of Benin will be proud of them, and in 15–20 years’ time, we’ll tell them that. We’ll tell their children, and that’s what makes it so special. Following the first leg, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Abidjan, Benin’s U20 women’s team and their Ivory Coast counterparts will face off this Sunday, 10 May, at 3 pm GMT at the Stade de Kégué. The winners of this match will qualify for the U20 Women’s World Cup, which is taking place in Poland this year.
