For many years, Bayern had no trouble luring star players from other Bundesliga teams to their ranks. But times have changed, and a refusal to join Bayern has left the 'Recordmeister' bosses in utter shock.
Details: According to the Daily Mail, the father (and agent) of Bayer midfielder Florian Wirtz, Hans-Joachim, met with Bayern representatives. A week later, he called Munich to inform them that his son wants to move beyond the Bundesliga.
It is reported that Wirtz's decision to turn down Bayern in favor of Liverpool stunned the club's officials. Soon after, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen used the media to assert that his club remains attractive to top stars, even taunting Liverpool by pointing out that Bayern will play at the Club World Cup.
Reminder: It was previously reported that the 'Scousers' sent an official offer to Leverkusen, proposing over 100 million euros for Wirtz.
