Osimhen–Lookman Row Ends as Eagles Shift Focus to Algeria
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation say the rift between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman has been resolved as the Super Eagles prepare for Saturday’s AFCON quarterfinal against Algeria in Marrakech. Algeria booked the tie after a 1-0 win over Congo.
Tension flared during Nigeria’s 4-0 round of 16 win over Mozambique when Osimhen confronted Lookman on the pitch, later asking to be substituted. The incident sparked internal discussions within the NFF.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said the matter was handled internally, noting that “the primary reasons and aftermath… have been nipped internally,” urging the public to “ignore all reports that suggest otherwise.”
Sources said opinions differed, with some calling for “strong disciplinary action,” but diplomacy prevailed. Lookman played down the issue, saying, “There’s no issue… It’s just football… He is my brother.”
The team travels to Marrakech tomorrow. Akor Adams has rejoined the squad; Ryan Alebiosu recovers.
