Osimhen Set for Urgent MRI as Injury Delays Return to Galatasaray
Galatasaray are still waiting for Victor Osimhen to return to Istanbul after the Nigerian forward suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 2026 World Cup playoff against DR Congo. The striker went down in the first half at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium and did not continue after halftime, with Akor Adams replacing him.
Nigeria struggled without him as DR Congo grew stronger, eventually winning 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The result sent the Leopards to the intercontinental playoffs and meant Nigeria missed out on the World Cup for the second time in a row — the first such run since their debut in 1994.
According to Sports Digitale, Osimhen is expected in Istanbul on Sunday. Galatasaray’s medical team will carry out a full check, and the forward will undergo an immediate MRI scan to determine how serious the hamstring problem is and what recovery steps he will need.
