Osimhen Closes in on Yekini After Mozambique Rout

Victor Osimhen moved closer to Rashidi Yekini’s historic Nigeria goal record after scoring twice in the Super Eagles’ 4-0 win over Mozambique in the AFCON 2025 round of 16 in Fès on Monday.

The Galatasaray striker struck in the 25th and 47th minutes to take his international tally to 34 goals, three shy of Yekini’s long-standing mark. Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams also scored.

Osimhen, making his 50th appearance, was later substituted after a brief disagreement with Lookman. Despite nearing the record, he insisted his focus is team success, saying, “I don’t think about records… I just fight for the team and try to contribute with goals and assists.”

Nigeria face Algeria or DR Congo in Saturday’s quarter-final encounter ahead.
