\Orlando Pirates have taken a bold new step by appointing Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou as the club’s new head coach, following the departure of José Riveiro, who has joined Al Ahly of Egypt.

The club announced the news via its official website, hailing the 46-year-old former international defender for his tactical vision and leadership—a combination the Buccaneers hope will steer them into a fresh era of competitiveness.

Experienced Staff Backing the New Era

Ouaddou will not walk alone. The new technical team includes:

  • Mandla Ncikazi and Rayaan Jacobs as assistant coaches
  • Helmi Gueldich as fitness coach
  • Tyron Damons as goalkeeping coach

Ouaddou is a seasoned player who played in several of Europe's top leagues and won 68 caps with Morocco, making him a wise addition to the Orlando Pirates' ambitious plan.

What’s Next: Marbella Preseason Camp Ahead

Ouaddou is expected to arrive in South Africa before the week ends, with preparations beginning June 27. The team will then head to Marbella, Spain, for a preseason training camp from July 8 to 20.

During the camp, the Pirates will face high-caliber European sides in friendlies, including:

  • Bolton Wanderers (England)
  • Pafos FC (Cyprus)
  • UD Las Palmas (Spain)
  • Granada CF (Spain)

The purpose of this preseason schedule is to provide the team with critical assessments in advance of the forthcoming season.
