Aston Villa visited RB Leipzig for a UEFA Champions League group stage match.

The Villans took an early lead in the 3rd minute thanks to a precise strike by captain John McGinn. In addition to helping his team, McGinn etched his name into the club’s history.

Details: McGinn became only the second player to score within the first three minutes of a major European competition for Aston Villa, following Peter Withe. Withe accomplished this twice in the UEFA Cup: against Vitória Guimarães in September 1983 and Spartak Moscow in November 1983.

Reminder: The 30-year-old midfielder has been with Villa since 2019. This season, McGinn has recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
