Manchester United have secured a backup plan in case their main transfer target slips away.

Details: According to The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell, Manchester United have added Racing's left-back Jorge Salinas to their transfer shortlist. The 19-year-old Spaniard is being considered as an alternative to Lewis Hall, and he reportedly has a release clause of just €16 million in his contract.

Hall remains the Red Devils’ top priority, but Newcastle has flatly refused to sell the 21-year-old Englishman this summer. Michael Carrick is in urgent need of competition for Luke Shaw: after Tyrell Malacia’s departure, Shaw is the only experienced left-back in the squad.

Salinas is one of the brightest hopes in Spanish football: this summer, he became a European U19 champion and last season helped Racing win the Segunda and return to La Liga. The left-footed defender—already being compared to Sergio Ramos in Spain—is also on the radar of Barcelona, Atlético, Porto, and Newcastle themselves.

It’s worth noting that in the 2025/26 season, Salinas provided 7 assists for Racing, and Transfermarkt values him at just €8 million—half his release clause.

Reminder: £60 million for a defender! Manchester United ready to splash the cash.
